About Campos do Jordao

Located 1700 metres above sea level in the Mantiquiera mountains, the charming yet curious city of Campos do Jordão is bound to surprise. The architecture features plenty of Swiss influences, perhaps due to the cold(ish) mountainous climate, with wooden chalet-style taverns and shops dotted around the place. If it weren't for the Portuguese signs on display you could easily be forgiven for thinking you were in any number of European ski resorts! Our pick of the best places to stay in Campos do Jordão make the most of the fabulous mountain views.

Comparisons to Chamonix and Davos Platz are often made, though you can be sure that it's not as cold as its European counterparts and there's, unfortunately, no skiing to be found. There are, however, other attractions - in winter the city's population quadruples due to the classical music festival, so if you're coming in this busy period then be sure to book ahead as the best places to stay in Campos do Jordão get quickly booked up.

The city is well-known for having stunning mountain views so be sure to remember your camera! Campos do Jordão is also a top spot for adventurous types - there's plenty of wonderful mountain biking, mountain climbing, horse-riding and climbing to enjoy.

What not to miss

  • Enjoy a picnic in the glorious Amantikir Park with its beautifully manicured gardens and maze.
  • Vila Capivari, the city's central area, is where you'll find all the Swiss influences - architecturally and gastronomically, with plenty of fondue restaurants and chocolate stores.
  • Head off on a free tour of the Boa Vista Palace, a former's governor's palace that now displays a lovely variety of Brazilian art.
