Cartagena is a truly charming city, UNESCO World Heritage Listed for its historic centre with its maze of cobbled streets within fortified walls, all of which has been beautiful preserved, so that Cartagena is often referred to as a city from another era. If you want to get the most out of the atmospheric centre, it’s possible to stay in some of Cartagena’s historic townhouses and mansions, because many of them have been converted into boutique hotels, guesthouses, or B&Bs. The majority of Cartagena’s B&Bs are in the historic centre of town, within the fortified walls, and in the old middle class district of San Diego, which is populated with stately colonial townhouses. The delightful atmosphere of both these areas is well worth seeking them out for.
