About Montcuq

Just 25 kilometres from buzzy Cahors, Montcuq — officially Montcuq-en-Quercy-Blanc — is a vibrant Lot village with a fascinating history. Once a Cathar stronghold, the charming riverside community now boasts a number of heritage buildings, along with some top-notch foodie spots. Hide away in cosy B&Bs or private villas in the village or the surrounding countryside as a couple or with family and friends. The best places to stay in Montcuq are intimate and relaxing, perfect for a rejuvenating holiday.

Little of Montcuq Castle remains save for its striking tower keep. Clamber up for mesmerising panoramic views — and for a sense of the village’s past. Keen history buffs will also be intrigued by the nearby Château de Lastours and the Château du Trépadou. Back in the village, you’ll find well-preserved medieval houses, some of which are home to cafés, galleries and shops. Montcuq is famous for its gaufres and meringues: don’t miss the chance to savour two or three after long walks, horse riding excursions or mountain biking adventures. Wine tastings and truffle-foraging trips are also wonderful.

Montcuq Lake is wonderful for kayaking, swimming and picnicking as a family during the summer months, whilst picturesque Lauzerte is well worth a stroll. Return to one of the best places to stay in Montcuq for lazy afternoons by the pool or evening drinks in a beautiful setting.
