Idyllically positioned in the beautiful Mediterranean, for some people Cyprus represents the perfect beach holiday destination, with its long stretches of sand, sunshine, snorkelling and diving opportunities and fantastic cuisine. And many of our recommendations for five star hotels in Cyprus are designed to please folks with those things in mind, they’re gorgeous beach resorts with so many facilities you need never leave the resort. But Cyprus has a lot more to offer than its coastline, and if you’re looking for a five star hotel in Cyprus which creates the perfect base for your explorations into this island’s fascinating culture and history, then we have some recommendations on our list for you too. We also have some really romantic options, and some super family-friendly resorts too.
For a Special Occasion
- Anassa is one of the most gorgeous hotels on Cyprus: a collection of elegant villas and larger buildings with beautiful pillared terraces, all surrounded by landscaped grounds reminiscent of Tuscany. The views are across the blue of Chrysohou Bay, or up into the hills of the Akamas Peninsula. Beneath the terraces, pool and gardens is a more or less private beach with a full portfolio of watersports facilities. And there’s an indoor pool too. And a very fancy Thalassa Spa, four excellent restaurants, and a wide range of room choices amongst the 177. Lake village, which has a charming harbour with lots of nice little restaurants, is just a five minute stroll, and you can scuba dive just off shore.
- On the southeastern coast close to Limassol is Amara, a gorgeous beach resort on a near perfect stretch of private beach. This resort has something for everyone. There are 207 rooms, amongst them spacious family suites, and there’s an excellent kids club too. If you appreciate good food you’ll appreciate their restaurant’s Michelin star, and if you’re looking for somewhere romantic look no further than the sunset views, the infinity pool and the restaurant on the outdoor terrace.
- Smaller than many of our recommendations for five star hotels in Cyprus, the Constantinou Bros Asimina Suites Hotel offers you the chance to stay in a spacious suite or villa, and walk right off your private terrace onto the white sand of the hotel’s private beach. Some of the 84 suites have their own private pools on their own private balconies too. And all are comfortable and unfussy, but stylish. Which could also be said for the decor in the restaurant and bar, and if you eat on the terrace you’re eating right against the sand amongst the palm trees. As well as the pool and exceptional spa, there are tennis courts, and private yachts, jets or helicopters to hire…
Some of the Most Romantic Five Star Hotels
- There’s plenty of romance to Cyprus, what with the lengths of incredible beaches with their impeccable sunsets, and the romantic ruins. So what does the Elysium add to this to qualify our recommendation? It’s supremely elegant in a traditional way, with colonnades, marble floors, mosaics, terracotta tiles, a private beach, wonderful sea views, and an incredible lagoon pool with waterfalls and fountains, and these fabulous double loungers you can recline on to enjoy it all by candlelight. This is a big hotel, with 242 rooms and suites, plus five restaurants, two bars and a cafe. Some of the villas have their own private gardens and pools, and some suites have private hot tubs.
- The Landmark is an historic hotel in an upmarket district in the centre of Nicosia. It’s also big, with 294 rooms and suites, offering simple, but luxurious design with indulgent bathrooms and private balconies. There’s a choice of three restaurants, plus an elegant, wood panelled cocktail bar, a large spa and gym, tennis courts and a large outdoor pool and smaller indoor pool. A great place to relax, with maybe a spot of shopping in the streets around the hotel?
The Most Luxurious Beach Break Hotels in Cyprus
- With all the ingredients for a classic beach break, the Alion Beach Hotel, in its beautiful spot just above a stretch of pale sand, and its collection of sun loungers and palm tree sentinels, is an easy option if you want sunshine, the sea air and some pampering. There are 100 minimally designed, white-on-white style rooms, the majority with great views, an extensive spa with a hot tub, steam bath and sauna, tennis courts and squash courts, a gym and four restaurants. You don’t need to leave until your time here is up.
- Overlooking gorgeous Konnos Bay, the Grecian Park Hotel is another beachside hotel you needn’t leave. It has 239 chic, contemporary rooms and suites, including some great family options, and all with wood floors and private terraces, plus a pool, spa, tennis courts, easy beach access, and a partnership with a watersports company operating on the bay below the hotel. Ideal for relaxing, but great if you want to see and do a lot too.
The Best Five Star Resorts in Cyprus
- The Columbia Beach Resort is a stunning resort directly overlooking beautiful Pissouri Bay. Their collection of 95 rooms includes elegant suites with living space, and huge family-sized options, as well as more usual sized hotel rooms. All have lovely flooring and wooden furnishings, and luxurious details. And many have a private balcony or terrace. The pool is huge — 80metres long! plus there’s a spa and gym, a specialist cycling centre onsite, two floodlit tennis courts and a comprehensive set of watersports facilities. There’s also a kid’s club. And two restaurants, one Cypriot/ Mediterranean and the other Italian, and quite gourmet.
- Limassol’a Amathus Beach is one of the few big-name luxury hotels in Cyprus, and it still sets the standard for others to follow, with expansive grounds, top-of-the-range facilities and services and huge rooms with incredible views. There are 239 rooms and suites with all the luxury trimmings: marble showers, fluffy bathrobes and slippers, Bulgari toiletries — and a choice of decor ranging from traditional luxury to contemporary high-design luxury. The best suites have their own private pools. But the hotel has three giant outdoor pools, an indoor pool and a private beach with private beach club too, so you won’t feel hard done by.
For a Five Star Family Resort
- The Annabelle is a sprawling, 244 room resort stretching along a beautiful stretch of Paphos coast. Keeping close to the water, the hotel’s various rooms, suites and villas are linked by pools and water features, like a river of landscaped lagoons. The rooms are light and airy, with simple decor and large windows and balconies letting in as much of the light and the view as they can. This is a relaxing resort, aimed at keeping all the family happy and entertained, but there’s plenty to do close by if you’re in the mood to explore. Its many terraces and private garden areas with lone tables mean that it’s quite romantic too.
- The Azia Resort and Spa is another elegant beach resort close to the coast at Paphos. This is also designed so that you don’t really need to leave it, with nine restaurants to choose from, and several more bars. It’s also got an award-winning spa with a long treatment menu, you’re close to the golf course, and there’s a huge watersports centre ten minutes away. There are 305 rooms and suites, with choices of rooms or suites for families, and there’s a kids club, and a nightclub for teenagers. The decor is stylish, with lots of white and accents in natural materials.
- The Four Seasons Cyprus is a typically luxurious Four Seasons resort just outside Limassol, surrounded by a lush botanical garden and landscaped lagoon style pool, which leads down to a stretch of private beach. All of the 304 rooms and suites have a balcony, and the majority have wonderful sea views. And, as you might imagine from a resort this size, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to room size and facilities, including private hot tubs if you need one. There’s a choice of restaurants and bars, two floodlit tennis courts, a PADI diving school and access to plenty of watersports kit. Plus there’s a spa, and a kids club for children from kindergarten age upwards.
- Limassol’s other great family friendly resort is the Parklane Resort and Spa which has a newer, more contemporary feel, but not quite the same variety of facilities. There’s a great kids club, and you’re close to the Park Kidz facility, plus there’s an excellent choice of family rooms and suites in amongst their 274, and it’s right on the beach, so it’s still perfect for families. There are three pools, one of which is adults only, and a huge spa, plus a gym and tennis courts.
For a hip five star
- Rising above the beach, the The Ciao Stelio Hotel in Larnaca is a 53 room, adults only hotel decorated with lots of white leather and marble. The best rooms have a sea view and a balcony, but the rooms at the rear of the hotel have fantastic views of the mountains, so no one is missing out. The hotel has a gym, spa, bar and restaurant, and it’s in a central spot, within a short walk of Larnaca Castle and Fort, and the Agios Lazaros Byzantine Museum.
For great value
- The Gillham Vineyard Hotel is a beautiful, adults-only boutique hotel and winery on the outskirts of Iglaz. The decor is simple and elegant, with exposed beams and stone walls, whitewash and wooden floors, then comfortable beds and design-conscious detailing. Really they’re letting the incredible views of the grape vines, and beyond them pine-clad Mediterranean mountains steal the show. There’s a pool-with-a-view, and quite an extensive spa, with a Turkish bath, wine baths, a barrel sauna and a plunge pool, and a simple but refined tapas bar and restaurant too, both offering wine tastings. The Presidential Suite has a private hot tub.
- If you like the idea of chic, white decor and sea views then Almyra, which is right on the beach at Paphos, could be the resort for you. This is a big hotel, with almost 200 rooms, but they have their layout cleverly arranged so that the family suites and villas are arranged together, away from the hip bars and liveliest of the four restaurants. Everything is within metres of the beach and the water, and all the rooms and suites benefit from great views, and stylish white decor. Many have access to a balcony or roof terrace too. For families there’s a kids club, children’s concierge and a creche. There are floodlit tennis courts onsite, a huge pool, a spa specialising in marine therapies, a golf course close by and plenty to do in and around the water.
