One word sums up Hamburg's Hafencity: uber-trendy. The iconic Elbphilharmonie personifies this vibe; a gorgeous glass concert hall perched atop a historic brick warehouse. Even if you’re not catching a performance, the Plaza offers panoramic views of the city and harbour. Obviously, this former industrial-naval heartland is maritime-themed, but you'll also discover on-trend bars and bohemian cafes, and of course fantastic seafood restaurants. It isn't surprising that the best hotels in Hafencity live and breathe its history, and look and feel just like it, embodying the best of industrial-chic designer decor.
For a fun city-stay

- 25 Hours Hafencity is a quirky option, an industrial-chic boutique in a former shipping yard. Each room is styled like a sailor's cabin: some with ropes dangling from the walls; others with sea chests, or ship log books. There's a good restaurant, a hip bar, and a sauna. Best of all, it's a splendid location for sightseeing, the Elbphilarmonie being easily reachable on foot. A central, chic city-stay!
- 25 Hours Altes Hafenamt is styled as a captain's home, so it's a little plusher, a little less industrial, but no less chic. It's set in a listed brick building, the former office of the Hamburg Port Authority, chic rooms with exposed brick walls and smart furnishings. Plus, Middle Eastern food — rather mouth-watering, in fact. More to the point, the location is excellent — guests can easily walk to all the main attractions, and it's surrounded by bars, restaurants and bakeries. Another chic city stay!
