The original Athens Flea Market stretches from Monastiraki Metro station to the foot of Odos Ifestou – a narrow, car-free thoroughfare crammed with tiny shops - and spills over into nearby streets and squares like Avyssinias, where there are some great cafés where you can take a break from shopping. Many of the best hotels near the Athens Flea Market are in Monastiraki and Psyrri, where you'll also find lots of great places to eat, drink, and spend the evening.

The Flea Market is one of the oldest and most colourful parts of the city, a bazaar full of glory-holes peddling everything from gaudy street fashions and footwear, antique weapons and uniforms from long-ago wars, camping and hiking gear, vintage toys, antiquarian books, religious medals, genuine antiques and curios and junk of all kinds. You'll find more upscale shops in the newer Pandrossou Flea Market, which stretches in the opposite direction, between Monastiraki and the Mitropolis (Cathedral). Look out for well-priced cotton and linen wear for men and women, gold and silver jewellery, leather sandals and accessories here. More of the best hotels near the Athens Flea Market can be found around Syntagma, around 500m from Pandrossou and one Metro stop from Monastiraki.
