20 of the Best Family Friendly Hotels and Resorts in Spain
Spain! So very many different places to go and so very many different reasons to go there! But if your primary objective is ensuring your family is super comfortable, then checking out our recommendations for the best family friendly hotels and resorts in Spain isn’t a bad way to start looking for Spanish holiday inspiration. As well as the highlights of the hotel, our recommendations come with family-pleasing highlights of the local area.
For Family Friendly Spanish Sunshine
- Casa Tomaren is a great example of classic Lanzarote architecture; a collection of eight private villas in a traditional complex arranged around a central pool. It looks boxy from the outside, but it’s spacious and airy inside, with balconies, courtyards and large windows letting the outdoors in. The largest villas sleep up to eight people, and have good sized kitchens and dining areas. There’s no restaurant, but they offer an excellent breakfast. Our Guru describes it as “rural chic with a film-star pool”, and the views of Lanzarote’s unique landscape are a fantastic backdrop. They also offer babysitting facilities.
- Tenerife’s Roca Nivaria is large and luxurious, built on a cliff directly overlooking the ocean, with landscaped gardens with a series of pools and infinity pools that seem to cascade towards the ocean. There are 298 rooms and suites, with stylish, minimal decor and large windows. The restaurants are excellent, there’s a spa and gym, and kid’s club, bike hire. And you’re just minutes from the ocean.
Spanish Family Friendly City Breaks
- Rey Juan Carlos is something a bit different: an urban resort. Which means it’s a resort-style complex, with beautiful gardens and huge pool, lots of space and choice of places to eat and drink, and all sorts of facilities to inspire too, but it’s in Barcelona. Just a short walk from Camp Nou. The concept is a bit different, but the idea of resort facilities in a city location will definitely solve some families' problems.
- The Minas Central Suites are found in a charming, listed building in Malasaña, central Madrid. They’re not huge, but they’re very affordable, and well designed, fully equipped for self-catering, with simple, modern kitchens. There’s a range of apartment sizes, from studios to multi-bedroom options, and the larger ones have both dining and living space.
For a beach holiday
- The Melia Cala Galdana on Menorca, is a chic beach resort on a beautiful cove. In front of the resort is a white, sandy beach, and a calm, turquoise pool of a bay, and the hotel is arranged so that the majority of the 341 rooms, suites and penthouses have water views. The decor is white and minimalist, with very comfortable features in the family sized suites. Peaceful and elegant.
- The Hotel Puente Romano’s private beach and kids club helped it make the cut onto the family friendly list, but its classic Spanish beach holiday charms, like whitewashed walls, sunny balconies and terraces, lush gardens and beautifully landscaped pool, mean we recommend it for anyone looking for a Marbella beach break. The hotel has 266 rooms and suites, several restaurants and bars, ten tennis courts and a spa and gym. It’s also got yacht you can hire. And they offer excellent tennis coaching.
- The Barcelo Castillo Beach Resort is a large seaside resort on the east coast of Fuerteventura. There are 382 rooms and suites, and the facilities to match this number, including an impressive choice of places to eat and drink, three pools, a kids club, games rooms, a spa and gym, and an onsite theatre. You’re right on the water, surrounded by palm trees and gorgeous views. And it’s excellent value too.
- The Sandos San Blas Nature Resort on Tenerife is a classic beach resort. it’s large, with 281 rooms and suites, with gorgeously landscaped pools, an excellent choice of places to eat and drink, a spa and gym, kids club, tennis courts, a boating lake, and lots of activities on offer. There are three things that really set it apart for us, though, the ocean views, the fact that it’s within the beautiful San Blas Nature Reserve, and that it’s got its own golf course.
Spanish Family Friendly Island Breaks
- The Paraíso de Los Pinos certainly looks like paraiso: it’s a collection of 29 luxurious apartments in Migjorn, which is on the island of Formentera. This is the kind of island you can really escape to, with sunshine, beautiful beaches and a lush, green interior. Plus lively markets you can shop for provisions in — there’s no restaurant, though the complex does offer breakfast. Expect whitewashed, contemporary style, a large outdoor pool, tennis courts and sea views.
- Mallorca’s Hotel Esplendido is sold by its bay view over the Port of Sóller, which you can appreciate from any number of terraces, private and public, and both of its outdoor pools. It has 80 rooms and suites in a range of sizes, with some great two storey family options, an indoor pool in the spa complex, a lively bistro plus bars and cafes, and you’re in a really charming town with some excellent restaurants and lots to see and do.
- Jardin Tecina is a big resort on tiny La Gomera. So it’s the kind of place you’d come to to relax, and enjoy the facilities. Which are pretty impressive, including five pools, tennis courts, volleyball courts, a golf course, and opportunities to learn to sail, dive or play tennis. There’s also a choice of places to eat and drink, a spa and beauty centre, and incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean across to Tenerife and Mount Tiede.
Spacious Spanish Accommodation
- Casa Anamaria is a converted villa in the Catalonian countryside. It’s a wonderful place for a country escape, with large grounds and a large pool area, spacious, comfortable accommodation in rooms, suites and private villas, and a classic Catalan menu in the stylish-but-unfussy restaurant, which spills out into a verandah bar. There are also tennis courts and a spa onsite, so you could stay at the Casa, or head out to explore the local charms, including the medieval town of Girona.
Luxurious Spanish Accommodation
- The Nobu Hotel Ibiza might not seem like an obvious choice for families, but its chic, white-on-white decor, fantastic views, big comfortable suites, and choice of four excellent restaurants, makes it the sort of place you can really enjoy pampering yourself in. Some of the suites have their own small gardens with plunge pools, and the terraces are fun not fussy.
- Mallorca’s Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel & Spa is a classic example of this luxury-focussed global chain: perfectly positioned on a cliff face overlooking the Port of Sóller and the Mediterranean. It’s a large, spacious-feeling complex, with 121 rooms, suites and apartments, so there’s a configuration to suit every family, and fantastic facilities, which include an award winning spa and restaurants, and a well organised kids club, a games room, and even a nightclub. So you don’t need to go offsite, but there’s a lot to see on Mallorca if you do.
- Barcelo La Bobadilla is a luxurious, Andalucían escape set on a thousand acres of its own private estate. The accommodation is set up like something of a village; there are 70 rooms, suites, apartments and villas, all of them palatial feeling, with Moorish decor and art, and views of interconnected courtyards and gardens dotted with fountains and olive trees. There’s a spa and pools, and three superb restaurants. This is a wonderful choice if you’re looking for something to please everyone.
For a rural getaway
- Son Siurana is a wonderfully warm and welcoming rural Mallorcan estate, converted into a 14 room hotel with an ecological focus and a rustic feel. This is a working farm, so there’s plenty to do and see here, and the restaurant uses produce taken right out of the fields, and served overlooking them. The decor matches the villa, which was built in 1784, but it’s very comfortable, as well as being classical. There’s a huge pool outside, and plenty to explore in the local area.
- Ibiza might not seem like the ideal island for a family holiday, but outside the club-centres, it’s beautiful, peaceful and historic. If that sounds like something your family could appreciate, the Agro Can Gall, a 200 year old farmhouse converted into a comfortable, 11 room boutique hotel, might be the place for you. It’s in a valley, surrounded by lush mountains on all sides, and the spacious rooms and suites, with their exposed stone walls and large windows, have wonderfully tranquil views. The gardens are littered with almond and olive trees, there’s a large pool, and plenty of space to play and relax. You’re near the beach, and there’s plenty to explore locally.
Recommendations for Young Families
- Hesperia Lanzarote is a luxurious waterfront resort with 335 rooms and suites. The emphasis at this resort is on activities, and there’s a lot of choice onsite, including all sorts of water-sports, tennis, squash and volleyball. There’s the usual pools and playgrounds, and there’s a mini-golf club, and a nightclub with DJs and regular live music nights. This is a relaxing spot too, especially if you have active kids who want to get involved with the kids club and activities, and you’d rather enjoy the spa and hammam etc.. The beach here slopes gently into the sea so it’s especially good for young families.
Recommendations for Family Gatherings
- Lanzarote’s Eco Finca De Arrieta is a relaxed, family-friendly eco-escape, with 12 very private ‘rooms’. Though none of them are actually rooms, there’s a tower, with wonderful ocean views, large villas, compete with cool kitchens and bathrooms, and marble-floored yurts, which are set in courtyards outside sheds, which house the kitchen and bathroom. All around are mango, banana and lime trees, and cacti and succulents, bright green against the sand and dark pebbles. There’s a playground with a trampoline, and some of the ‘rooms’ have private pools and hot tubs. There’s no restaurant, but there are bars and restaurants on the beach 300 metres away.
For great value
- Casa La Concha is small, secluded and affordable, and just the right distance from the beach at Marbella. A B&B with five private villas and five rooms in the main villa, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to the size of your accommodation, which is what makes it ideal for families — and for families travelling with extended family, or with other families. The decor is simple and tasteful, but it’s obviously all been chosen with a lot of care, and that typifies this property, lots of care has been put into the gardens and breakfast and other facilities too.
