About Eleuthera
A beautiful 100-mile stretch of land curving along the Great Bahama Bank, Eleuthera is a famously spectacular place to unwind. Part of the Bahamas, the island offers everything from simple, self-catering stays to gorgeous resorts with an appealing castaway feel, fit for a whole range of tastes and budgets. The best places to stay in Eleuthera are right on the beach, and promise striking sea views, as well as plenty of opportunities to kick back on the sand or try diving, snorkelling and sailing out in the Caribbean Sea.
Long and narrow, Eleuthera has three airports, so it’s well worth choosing your flights carefully, depending on where you’d like to stay. There’s no real public transport system, but it’s easy to hire a car or a bike — and a boat, if you know what you’re doing!
Explore land once used to grow pineapples, stroll through seaside villages and small towns, or embark upon long rambles and cycling adventures. Out on the ocean, you’ll find excellent fishing, exceptional snorkelling and diving spots — including a fascinating underground cave system — and some top-notch surfing hubs. Beyond the plethora of impressive beaches, highlights include inland swims at Ocean Hole and wanders around the Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve.
Nearby Spanish Wells and Harbour Island, part of the same archipelago, make for wonderful day trips — or picturesque holiday bases in their own right. This is a wonderfully romantic part of the world, and some of the best places to stay in Eleuthera are also very special honeymoon hideaways!
