About Peillon

Slightly north of the Côte d'Azur — just 30 minutes from Nice — sits pretty hilltop Peillon. A gorgeous traditional village steeped in history, this is a brilliant destination for a tranquil escape as a couple or individual. Swap the crowds of the French Riviera for cobbled lanes garlanded with hanging vines, medieval frescoed chapels and a lovely Sunday market. Accommodation options are simple and understated, with the best places to stay in Peillon offering superb views and a warm welcome.

Fully pedestrianised, Peillon has a wonderfully timeless feel, its steep streets lined with historic houses and vaulted passageways revealing courtyards dominated by plane trees or stone fountains. Admire the 15th century frescoes of the Chapel of Penitents-Blancs, visit the Railway Heritage Museum at the train station, or join locals in sampling produce at the lively weekend market in the church square. Keen hikers and mountain bikers will find trails criss-crossing the nearby mountainsides, whilst beachgoers and eager shoppers can easily take a day trip to Nice or Menton, on the coast.

Charming and low-key, our pick of the best places to stay in Peillon also boasts a top-notch restaurant specialising in regional dishes. Don’t miss the opportunity for a gourmet feast!
