About Tignes

A compact, purpose-built ski resort next to Val d’Isère in Savoie, Tignes is famed for its spectacular vistas and superb snow. Established on a striking mountain plateau in the 1960s as part of the Espace-Killy ski area, Tignes promises access to over 300kms of pistes, perfect for any keen wintersports person. Accommodation options range from simple chalets to more luxurious hotels fit for a host of tastes and budgets. Check out our list of the best places to stay in Tignes as you start planning your trip.

Made up of five villages, Tignes is a wonderfully family-friendly resort, with a relaxed, easygoing vibe. The most affordable hotels are clustered around Le Lavachet or Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes Les Brévières, slightly further down the mountain, whilst you’ll find a buzzy scene in hip Tignes Le Lac. Take some of the 80 ski lifts to the slopes, or catch the speedy funicular railway — the fourth-largest in the world — up to the challenging pistes of the Glacier Grande Motte. Whilst the main ski season runs from November to April, some of the glacier pistes remain open from June to mid-August for fabulous summer ski holidays.

Summer visitors will also find ample opportunities to mountain bike, hike and climb in stunning surroundings; this is a very popular time to explore the French Alps. Whether you’re dreaming of snowboarding adventures or trekking through fields of wildflowers in the sunshine, the best places to stay in Tignes fill up fast!
