Just over an hour by road from Barcelona, Girona is a far smaller city, and can feel easier to explore over a long weekend. Criss-cross the Onyar River as you admire the maze of narrow streets which make up the Jewish quarter — the history of which is detailed in Museu d'Història dels Jueus — and the newer parts of the city. Visit the City History Museum, the Museu d’Art and the majestic cathedral, or take a guided walking tour to marvel at modernist and art nouveau landmarks aplenty. For old town charm

For a rural escape

For great value

Travel information

  • Fly into Girona-Costa-Brava Airport, just 12 kms from town, or to Barcelona-El Prat Airport if you're travelling internationally. Barcelona is just over an hour from Girona by road or rail. Alternatively, travel to Girona by train from other European cities.
