Infused with all the charm of the Cotswolds, but without the heaving crowds, Shipston-on-Stour is an idyllic market town surrounded by gently rolling hills, dales and pastures. With its high street lined with cosy pubs, tea rooms, independent shops and galleries, and now fancy restaurants too, it’s recently been voted the Sunday Times’ Best Place to Live in the Midlands. Shipston-on-Stour was historically a prominent sheep market, and by the 16th century also a thriving wool town, known for its beautiful tapestries. It still takes pride in its deep-rooted-traditions, celebrating at the annual ‘Wool Fair’, held on the Spring Bank Holiday. Other noteworthy events are the Shipston Proms, held in June and July, and the Shipston Midsummer Festival. This is also a great base for exploring the Cotswolds, and for visiting Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle.
