About Boise
Idaho’s quirky and often underrated state capital, Boise is a brilliant destination, offering both a trendy urban scene and a number of outdoor pursuits. The largest metropolitan area within a 300-mile radius, the city has a great buzz and an appealing concentration of cultural attractions and foodie hotspots. Accommodation options range from simple guesthouses to smart luxury hotels, with many of the best places to stay in Boise clustered close to the downtown area.
Begin your explorations — on foot or by bicycle — in Boise’ historic downtown, where you’ll find old brick edifices housing lively restaurants and bars. Head to BoDo, the area’s hippest commercial complex, for boutiques, galleries, eateries and the popular Knitting Factory music venue. Heritage buffs will enjoy discovering North End's appealing archtiecture, as well as admiring the State Capitol and the stained glass windows of St John’s Cathedral. The Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site, which dates back to 1872, is also open to visitors. Further highlights include the Boise Art Museum and the World Centre for Birds of Prey.
Boise also boasts a huge number of dog parks and attractive green spaces, including the Idaho Botanical Gardens. Cycle along the Boise River Greenbelt, try skiing at Bogus Basin during the winter months, or venture north to the foothills for scenic hikes and wildlife-spotting. The 100-mile protected Ridge to Rivers Trail System is excellent. You can also go kayaking, paddle boarding and tubing in the area.
Come evening, you’ll find bustling bars and eateries aplenty in the city centre. Do try to experience the Basque Block’s foodie scene, and pop into the Basque Museum & Cultural Centre. Boise is home to the largest Basque population outside of Spain!
Relaxed and welcoming, the best places to stay in Boise invite guests to unwind and socialise in stylish surroundings.
