“An opulent historical hotel, lavishly decorated in gold with antiques and frescoes. Rooms with four-poster beds, striped silks, and oriental carpets. An indulgent spa, lovely swimming pool and a restaurant fit for royals. A magical hotel in a great location. ”

Hotel review

On a scorching day in Prague, the Alchymist’s cool paved courtyard with its comfy seating and tinkling fountain makes the perfect refuge. Surrounding it are four early 16th-century Renaissance and Baroque mansions, which the hotel occupies. A glimpse of the interior – a stunning riot of gold, from impressive Rococo furniture and statues to heavy gilt-framed pictures and mirrors, filling a succession of calm salons – suggests that the alchemist really did crack the problem. Almost every centimetre of wall and ceiling downstairs is decorated with murals, frescoes or friezes, and vast carved four-poster beds, striped silks and Oriental carpets lend a palazzo feel to the large bedrooms and suites. Relax in the spa or swimming pool (one of the few in Prague), and make time for an espresso in the charming Venetian-style café.

Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa

"The hotel could well be a museum but for its warmth, sunny terrace, posh dining room, cheerful chocolatier and youthful, international staff."
