Hotel Review
Peru's beautiful Titicaca Lake plays host to a number of islands, of which Amantani is the largest. Steeped in tradition and folklore, this mystical corner of Peru has been populated by indigenous communities for centuries. Amantica Lodge draws on local knowledge and custom in this charming eco hotel, perched on the banks of the lake, to provide guests with a luxury immersion in Peruvian culture.
The hotel currently operates two stylish private properties, one suite designed for a couple and the other a family lodge. Natural materials are highlighted in the design of these eco suites, with exposed pebble walls, wood panelling and thatched roofs. The protruding windows offer beautiful lake views with the sensation of being on the water. Contemporary design runs into the bathroom, where local stone features in the luxury lakefront bathub. The family suite offers two queen-size beds, comfortable for a small family; in light of the proximity to the water, this lodge is probably not suitable for younger children.
Breakfast comes as standard at the lodge; in fact, the most modest package also provides access to the hotel's private chef, who is native to the island and specializes in Andean cuisine. The hotel's 'light pack' offers full-board, with meals in a quaint, family-run restaurant on the island. The lodge runs a number of activities to assist guests in their explorations on and off the island; these are included in the most comprehensive package, in addition to an open bar. There is plenty to see locally, from guided treks to fishing, cultural activities and island hopping.
A chic island getaway, perfect for culture-lovers.
