“Good base in attractive countryside for a weekend getaway in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Also the area where Jane Austen got inspiration for her novels. Couples will find it cosy and contemporary; larger groups and families will appreciate the spacious rooms and communal areas.”

Hotel review

Hidden in the heart of pretty Jane Austen countryside, this newly renovated 15th-century inn offers everything you might want in a rural getaway - tasty well presented food, friendly staff, comfortable rooms and no shortage of walks. The Devils Jumps, a series of three small hills, are within walking distance and there's a 10 acre sculpture park opposite the hotel exhibiting around 600 sculptures in enchanting woodland. With 18 rooms (named after Austen characters), a cosy bar area serving innovative cocktails and wine by the glass and spacious panelled dining area with open kitchen and a handful of booths, this makes for an ideal place for couples wanting seclusion or groups gathering together for a reunion or celebration. What sets this inn apart from other establishments are the details. Rooms are equipped with clocks, Roberts radios, padded coat hangers, tartan rugs, old novels and nightcaps of sloe gin or damson vodka.
