Hotel Review
Lisbon’s Grand Dame, built in 1959 by Salazar to show the world that Portugal could do luxury, remains the benchmark that other 5* hotels in the capital need to match up to. Whilst the rooms may be considered slightly dated in feel, despite their luxury, with their deep carpets and heavy curtains, the rest of the hotel gleams with the best of the 21st century. Food is phenomenally good, with a resplendent lunchtime buffet at the Varandah Restaurant, where Lisbon’s elite go to eat. Dinner could be octopus from the Algarve with smoked sea salt and crunchy sweet potatoes or milk-fed veal with green asparagus and ceps with a pecorino cheese emulsion. In addition, do stop at the Ritz Bar for the beef tartare – the best in town. And throughout the week, freshly prepared sushi is available at O Japonês restaurant.
The spa, undoubtedly Lisbon’s best, has an 18 metre lap pool as its centrepiece with treatments using Sodashi, Swiss Perfct and ESPA alongside Portuguese brands Ignae and Benamor. Extensive fitness facilities are located at the top of the hotel, including a Pilates studio, resistance training and a 400 metre running track on the rooftop.

Four Seasons Hotel Ritz
"Décor is grand - think chandeliers and huge flower displays on gilded furniture. A good collection of modern Portuguese art from tapestries to sculptures and paintings hang throughout the hotel."
