Hacienda Manteles has a privileged location on the cusp of the Llanganates National Park in Ecuador; a protected wildlife area that straddles several provinces, the national park is home to a mysterious 'cloud forest', several volcanoes and a rich variety of birdlife. This boutique hotel maximises its beautiful location with simple interiors built from natural materials and wide windows looking out onto the landscape. Guestrooms vary in size but are generally spacious and bright; wooden floors and exposed walls give a rustic feel, while the plush linens and comfortable beds add a sense of luxury. There are good family options available too, with split-level living space that houses an extra bed. The cream of the crop are the suites, with the best boasting floor-to-ceiling views and a private hot tub. Local artwork and textiles add a homely feel and an injection of regional flavour.
