“One of Rocco Forte's finest hotels. Architectural splendour and grand interiors that ooze contemporary elegance. Sleek rooms and suites in blues, reds and beiges. Fantastic roof top terrace bar/lounge with unrivalled views of Berlin, great spa. An ultra-stylish spot for any city visitor.”

Hotel review

Hotel de Rome packs some major WOW! factor, from its imposing location on the historic Bebelplatz, to its strikingly bold Art Deco interior. Like most of Berlin this hotel is on a monumental scale – the building was the former HQ of the Dresdner Bank and has been imaginatively converted. The spa and full-length 20m pool are located in the old underground jewellery vault – appropriately sparkling with gold mosaics. A giant neon birdcage hangs from the glass atrium in the main lobby where you can sit and watch the international clientele from over-sized semi-circular black velvet corner sofas. For all its imposing stature this hotel is still family friendly – the miniature Hotel de Rome children’s breakfast bar is a fun touch in the main restaurant. Rocco Forte has a magic formula with hotels and this one is no exception. The staff are charming, efficient and clearly take great pride in their hotel. They genuinely seem to enjoy looking after the guests and even recognise you the next day! The bedrooms and bathrooms are high ceilinged and spacious, designed down to the very last detail by the talented Olga Polizzi, but they are not fussy or overdone. How many hotels have you been to where the bedroom slippers (his, hers and children) match the theme of the carpets? Clever! Dinner in La Banca is a treat but be prepared to pay for the privilege. Everything that is great about Berlin is within easy reach – the smart boutiques along Friedrichstrasse, beer and sausages, all of the key historical landmarks and the sobering Topography of Terror and Jewish memorial. Note: You will need to book the Reichstag if you want to see inside Norman Foster’s glass dome. Highly recommended for a luxury mini-break.
