“A former 14th century monastery, turned luxury hotel boasting contemporary design and period architecture. This chic hotel offers first-rate service and plush rooms. The Renaissance chapel is now a magnificent spa and the Baroque cloisters hold a fantastic restaurant and bar. A truly spoiling stay. ”

Hotel Review

One of our favourite hotel groups, Mandarin Oriental can be relied on to satisfy guests with its restrained luxury and top-notch service. The Prague branch, opened in 2006 in a 14th-century former monastery, is no exception. A tranquil air still suffuses the building, whose vaulted ceilings hark back to earlier times. Be sure to visit the magnificent spa in a Renaissance chapel, where the original foundations are on display beneath a glass floor and ancient frescoes have been carefully preserved. There are six treatment rooms (including one with a vitality pool) in the dimly lit vaults. Take tea in the striking Baroque cloisters; drink cocktails in the groovy Barrego bar; and dine in the subtly smart Essensia restaurant, where the menu combines Asian and Czech cuisines. Rooms – some classic, some contemporary – are all elegant and deeply comfortable.
