The Nissaki Hotel is ideally suited for young families and couples. The light, airy and spacious ground-floor rooms have private porches which open out onto the enclosed pool area, but literally a few steps beyond you have a sheltered sandy beach and the sea. Perfect for the bucket and spade contingent. The upstairs rooms with four-poster beds have the benefit of lovely sea views. The hotel’s own little beach cafe is charming but evidently extremely busy in high season. An excellent buffet breakfast, which you can choose to eat inside or out, sets you up for the day. The Nissaki interior is best described as neutral but it is faultless in terms of comfort and cleanliness. A ten minute walk along the sea wall takes you right to the centre of main port town, Chora, which is bustling with seafood restaurants and fun cafes and bars. Walk a little further and you can watch the sun set through the ancient marble Portara, a famous Naxos landmark dating back 2,500 years.
