This romantic hideaway in Lombardy will make you want to go back year after year. Run by two sisters, it is the familial welcome that makes you feel most at home. Whether they are picking you up from the train station, asking you to join them in a pasta lunch or telling you the best places to explore in the area, you will feel welcomed like a member of the family. The palace is a proper fairytale retreat, with an imposing central stone staircase, high-ceilinged suites with four-poster beds and huge walk-in showers. If you are travelling in a small group and want to be private, book the “dependence”, an annex with a frescoed entertainment room and three rooms above. They have just been granted a wedding licence and Palazzo Novello makes a magical backdrop to any celebration.
