Hotel Review
Off the beaten track, and off the charts luxurious. Prepare to indulge in this blissful island hideaway Six Senses has a reputation for choosing remote destinations in areas of outstanding natural beauty and Six Senses Con Dao certainly fits both these criteria. Its tiny entrance and low-key reception desk betray what you’ll find behind them - a two-mile private stretch of beach and stunning architecture designed to blend into the lush greenery that surrounds. It is the first five-star resort in the stunning archipelago islands which have been protected for decades as a national and marine park. 50 wood-panelled eco-villas, each with their own infinity pool, blend into the surroundings. Their impeccable design is open-plan and beautifully relaxed. Think: wooden panels, floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor showers. Six Senses is synonymous with high-end pampering and quality ‘me’ time so guests are very much encouraged to sit back and relax, and let their GEM (that’s Guest Experience Maker) handle the rest. The service is seriously impressive and staff are eager for guests to experience as much Vietnamese culture as possible - Vietnamese lessons, cooking classes, and even a lesson in a traditional conical basket boat. Excellent island tours are on offer for those who are keen to learn about the island’s fascinating, though somewhat grizzly, past. The brilliant spa, with the looming Lo Voi mountains behind, provides traditional Vietnamese massages and salt scrubs and contains a Thai therapy room, a yoga and meditation area as well as a juice bar. From May to October, turtles nest on beaches around the island and the hotel dutifully keeps track of these locations for guests who wish to experience both nesting and hatching. From February to July, the waters around Con Dao are at their clearest for scuba diving - admire the untouched coral and keep your eyes peeled for small bamboo sharks, rays, turtles and a host of tropical reef fish. The hotel offers fantastic choice of food: rustic Vietnamese, stylish Asian fusion; and a deli serving fast food (don’t miss the homemade ice-cream). Six Senses Con Dao is a honeymooners paradise, but with a kids club offering endless activities families and children are very much welcome. The beauty of this hotel is that guests are offered the option to do as little or as much as they please.
