Overlooking the tranquil Kabini backwaters and bordering two national parks, this authentic safari camp couldn’t be in a much better location. You sleep in elegant, Hemingway-style tents or machans 20ft above the ground. Closer to the backwaters, the tents boast uninterrupted views from private verandas and have four-poster beds, antique furnishings and gorgeous bathrooms with rainforest showers and massive Jacuzzi-style bathtubs. The more rustic machans are set back on stilts and have phenomenal aerial panoramas as well as spare beds, making them suitable for families. The vibe here is low-key and you can sit around the campfire in the evenings sharing bush tales, or unwind in the sitting room, which is stuffed with talented owner Shaaz Jung’s phenomenal wildlife photographs. There’s also an observation deck with a bar and sofas – a great spot to sip sundowners – and an aquamarine ‘bush pool’, where you may spot a tiger sauntering past to quench his thirst at the river’s edge.
