Just 20 minutes west of Frankfurt, the small city of Wiesbaden also borders the Rhine River. Once the site of 25 hot springs, the town has been a spa destination since the Roman era, and continues to delight modern-day visitors with its plethora of cultural attractions, superb shops and restaurants, and relaxed, romantic energy. The capital of Germany’s stunning Hesse region, it’s a brilliant choice for a holiday as a couple or with family and friends. Wonderful small hotels and guesthouses abound, but our Gurus have chosen to highlight a lovely boutique spot as the best place to stay in Wiesbaden. Perched near the heart of town, this is an ideal springboard to soaking up the city’s many charms.
There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Wiesbaden — deciding where to begin can feel a little daunting. We’d suggest a walking tour of the historic city centre, which is studded with elegant architecture. The imposing Kurhaus, surrounded by manicured gardens, is one such highlight, as is the golden-spired Russian Church which sits atop the Neroberg Hill. A ride on the 1888 Nerobergbahn Funicular is not to be missed.
Back in the town centre, amble around the Kurpark in the sunshine, taking the little ones out on the paddle boats or playing a round of golf. Long soaks in healing thermal waters come highly recommended before evenings spent sampling the delicious food and drink of the city’s many bars and eateries. Day trips into Frankfurt are also great fun, with museums, galleries and designer boutiques aplenty. Retreat to your stylish guest room at one of the best places to stay in Wiesburg to rest before another day of exploring.
