Sarlat-la-Canéda - or simply Sarlat - is a beautiful medieval town in the Dordogne. It has become a favourite destination for travellers to the Périgord for its idyllic, winding alleys, sandy-coloured buildings and small-town charm. Expect a bustling market on the weekends and summer crowds. La Belle Plane, sitting on the hillside on the outskirts of Sarlat, is a tranquil oasis; set within two and a half acres of land, the former winery is cushioned from the nearby town and offers perfect peace and quiet. Guests can access the town easily by a shaded footpath that leads there from the hotel. The 19th-century building has had a full face-lift in its restoration, and rooms are modern and bright. The family suites offer separate living space and can accommodate children; cots are provided for free if required. The suites have a pretty sun terrace which is an added bonus. The hotel also has a range of sports facilities in the surrounding area, so there are lots of activities on hand for families. A delightful country retreat.
