Hotel review

The location may be remote, but the la Demba Art Hotel is popular with city dwellers and families who want to immerse themselves in the great outdoors. Fantastic walking, mountain biking, fishing, canyoning and swimming all nearby in the Monte Perdido National Park and the Anisclo Canyon. And for the less athletic you can always follow the local wine route. The hotel itself, like many art hotels is different. The pictures on the walls and the sculptures all around may not be to your taste but they are certainly interesting and some of them arresting and they make a great change from the more bland offerings of many hotels. It’s certainly different as are the rooms, each designed by a different artist. All of them are spacious some more so than others and could fit in extra beds for children without difficulty. However, some areas of the design when left to an artist can fall short of what you may have come to expect in terms of general facilities and functionality but the beds are comfy and rooms quiet. Come prepared to be surprised. The restaurant serves good rustic mountain food with plenty of meat and vegetables and a most delicious hot chocolate soufflé (not to be missed). In summer there is an expansive sunny terrace with spectacular views over the local village of Abizanda and the mountains and lakes beyond. Do also try the wine from the local Enate vineyards (they also have their own contemporary art collection) but be warned, they are powerful.
