Away from the bustle of Amalfi on a bluff above the sea, this captivating hotel occupies two buildings on either side of the twisting coast road. One is an ancient convent; the other its watchtower. Its origins are evident in the convent’s finest feature: a gloriously serene 13th-century Moorish cloister, where breakfast is served each morning, though it’s a joy to sit here at any time of the day. Leading off the cloister, the bedrooms were originally cells, but are now decorated with tasteful simplicity, drawing the eye to the spectacular view. There are two restaurants, also with views, a salt-water pool and access to the sea. Some noise from car horns, but it’s not a huge problem.
