The Town Hall hotel is exactly what you would expect a former municipal building in a less than starry part of London's east end, re-imagined as a hotel by top smartipants architects to be like. The six feature rooms include one made from the former mens' loo (stone floor included) which sounds horrid but warm and no longer smelly, works aesthetically in the same way industrial style kitchens can. Some rooms conveniently have their own small kitchens, there is artwork by six east end artists, a pool and spa and a glass top floor has been added. Viajante restaurant has divided the critics but is a fun place to eat zingy modern food, presented with great poise by chef Nuno Mendes. The hotel does not attempt to conceal it's drab past, it works with and sometimes celebrates it. The former council chamber, unchanged, is used for meetings, screenings and debates and the Town Hall Tea Lady will bring cocktails to your room on a trolley between 6 and 8pm.
