Hotel Review
Founded over 100 years ago, this historic inn has undergone a recent renovation which has seen it transformed into a luxury riverside bolt-hole. Located in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan, the hotel is ideally placed for sightseeing, with views onto the Inuyama Castle and, to the west, the magnificent spread of the Kiso River. With attentive service and mouthwatering kaiseki cuisine, this hotel is set to become a fast favourite with visitors to the region.
The hotel offers six room categories, all suites, with either castle or river views from panoramic windows. For ultimate indulgence, book the River Luxury Suite, a corner room with two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, a private terrace and separate tatami-floor living room. Interiors nicely blend Japanese custom with Western design, with futon-style beds raised from the floor so that they are more amenable to non-Japanese visitors. Living spaces similarly feature low but not floor-level seating, a balance which ensures authenticity and comfort.
While several suite categories include a private rotenburo bath, the hotel also offers a public bath on the second floor which is available for private use by reservation. Dinner is served in a dedicated private dining room, traditional in Japanese custom. The seasonal kaiseki on offer is a delight; fresh, contemporary and exciting, each course is an experience unto itself. Wine is provided in the hotel lounge in the evening, a warm and inviting space to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.
