Overseen by chic owner Colette and her French bulldog Kloe, Beit al Batroun is a boutique bolthole in the hills above northern Lebanon’s coastline. It comes as a shock to learn that this lovingly decorated spot was built only six years ago – from the arched doorways in the central liwan to the colourful tiles and sand-colored stone exterior, Colette carefully built her home to replicate traditional Lebanese design. Enter French doors into the simple, stylish bedrooms, which boast a collection of quirky antiques and shaded outdoor seating space. Upstairs, Beit al Batroun’s central living space offers comfortable lounging spots indoor or an expansive terrace with a plunge pool in one corner and views out to the Mediterranean. A spread of fresh Lebanese produce is provided in the morning, but guests will have to venture to nearby Batroun for other meals.

Sunlight pours through two soaring porticoes that illuminate ivory-white sofas in the lobby of Beit al Batroun in Lebanon. On the balcony guests read, doze and natter. Many lounge by the plunge pool or take in the view of the eastern Mediterranean.
