“A fun hotel with an outdoorsy ethos set overlooking South Bay. Rooms keep the building's original features but feel fresh and funky with pops of colour and contemporary artwork. There's a place for bikes, surfboards, and muddy boots while dogs are also made very welcome. Ideal for an active break.”

Hotel review

A new-style hotel amongst the seaside resort’s more sedate accommodations, Bike & Boot cuts a bold contemporary edge. Although housed in one of the grand Victorian terraces, with a prime position overlooking South Bay and the ravine, the interiors are anything but traditional. Bright and breezy with stripped-wood floors, colour-block walls, splashes of the hotel’s signature tangerine, and deckchair-striped blinds at windows, it has a youthful and fun vibe. There’s a definite outdoorsy theme, too, with walls hung with bicycles, cycling helmets and Ordnance Survey maps, plus quirky collections of flip-flops. As well as being family-friendly, dogs, bicycles and surfboards are all welcomed with a dedicated hosing down and cleaning area, plus storage lockers.

Bedrooms, like the public areas of the hotel, have a bright and Scandi feel with clean-lined, pale-wood furniture, open hanging rails and neutral walls. Splashes of colour in headboards, radiators, Anglepoise lamps and jazzy-striped carpets add warmth while bathrooms have powerful showers (no baths) and good storage space. True, the smallest rooms are compact with small bathrooms but are well-designed; the best rooms have sea views or are on the upper floors.

Food in the long, sea-facing bar-cum-restaurant is filling rather than polished but just what you need after a day surfing the waves or tackling the steep climb up to the castle.
