Hotel Review
Anyone with an ounce of knowledge about London’s music scene will know that Denmark Street occupies a legendary position in the pantheon of iconic locales (anyone who was anyone bought a guitar from a shop here back in the day). And today that vibe is being channelled at Chateau Denmark, a fabulous “out there” collection of rooms, suites and apartments where the ethos is to let your hair down and the party begin! Staff are young and trendy with stacks of enthusiasm — they will urge you on to have a good time! Post check-in, your personal butler will show you to your den of iniquity aka room for the night and explain all the usuals (lights, tv etc), but he’ll also show you how to work the speakers and point out that if you choose to take a tipple from the extensive range of whisky bottles from your personal bar, you’ll be charged for the bottle! Rooms are dark and moody, but in a playful way. Blacks and golds prevail, alongside leather banquettes and the biggest booze collection I’ve ever seen in a hotel room! There’s even a huge VOID speaker so that you can rock those sounds! The artwork continues the theme of decadence, with photographic images all alluding to days and nights of hedonism. To many this might sound a little distasteful, but let me assure you, it’s not! Rooms are beautifully appointed, beds are huge and supremely comfortable and adorned by fine linens; bathrooms are sleek and modern with huge rain showers and personalised Chateau Denmark toiletries. If you’ve spent enough time time in your decadent bolthole and fancy heading out for a few hours, then pop over the street to Thirteen, Chateau Denmark’s bar. It’s a continuation of the “let it all hang out and enjoy yourself” theme with sumptuous interiors (black leather and bright velvet aplenty) and a fantastic cocktail menu (all very reasonably priced) and an equally impressive range of sharing sushi plates (again, great value and seriously delicious). If you want to be in the heart of Soho action, where the coolest of the cool have partied and made music, then book a room here. It’s a fun, energetic place to stay and you don’t have to be young to appreciate it! It may look super hip, but take it from me — everyone’s more than welcome.
