On a quiet road near Verona’s impressive Basilica di Santa Zeno is a smart building boasting large windows that reflect the street as you pass. But you wouldn’t pass if you knew that inside are five, highly styled ground-floor rooms with names that sound like they’ve come out of a Quentin Tarantino movie: Mr White, Mr Blue, Mr Grey, Mr Pink and Mr Purple. On booking you are given a pass code that lets you enter from the street straight into your room, allowing for the ultimate discretion. Rooms are exquisitely furnished with state-of-the art lighting and sound systems, Nespresso coffee maker and fully stocked mini bar. They are all soundproofed, too, so even if other guests are staying at the same time as you, you will feel completely private. The large pavement windows provide an ever-changing picture of Veronese street life (you can see out, but nobody can see in). Breakfast isn’t provided, but there are plenty of little cafes in the neighbourhood and the main square is a 15-minute walk away.
