“Quirky but comfortable boutique hotel in backwoods Virginia. This sympathetically converted former shoe factory is filled with exposed beams and brick. Large rooms have high ceilings, big windows and are filled with retro pieces. There are two restaurants, a gym and a friendly hotel dog on site. ”

Hotel review

You cannot miss this property. There is a larger than life, patent red stiletto heel affixed to its exterior, a reminder of its days as a shoe factory. Certainly not one of those cloned US hotel chains; the conversion is high quality. Spacious rooms leave the original brickwork and beams of this former industrial space exposed. Large sash windows provide views of historic downtown, the James River or the Blue Ridge Mountains. Retro lighting, velvet upholstered sofas and leather swivel chairs create a loft apartment feel. Some rooms even include small wood burners. More exposed brickwork and sizeable windows continue in the bathrooms, as well as granite surfaces and natural tiles. Deep bathtubs and fluffy robes invite guests to wallow amongst the bubbles. Breakfast is enjoyed in room, delivered in a rather novel wooden shoebox. Waterstone Pizza and Shoemakers American Grille provide other on site dining options. There is also a courtyard garden to the back, pleasant on a sunny afternoon. Located on the edge of historic Lynchburg’s town centre there are plenty of attractions and restaurants nearby. Close to the main rail track, which produces some atmospheric noise a few times a day, makes getting around a lot easier.
