A recent complete overhaul sees Douneside House being brought into the 21st century and yet it has successfully kept its country house charm. Part of the MacRobert Trust, set up in memory of 3 brothers who all died in their prime, Douneside House is steeped in memorabilia for the MacRobert family and is often reserved exclusively for members of the Armed Forces and their families but there is no whiff of a boot camp here. Quite the opposite; charming, friendly and ever helpful staff, plush bedrooms with all mod cons including excellent bright reading lights, comfy sitting areas with open fires and fine views over Deeside and the Grampians beyond and a delicious restaurant serving fresh local ingredients, with most of the vegetables being picked from the Douneside gardens. What more could you ask for in a highland retreat? Fishing, golf, walking, castles to visit are all on your doorstep and there's even a Health Club on site with swimming pool, gym, classes etc which are all complimentary to guests staying in the hotel. But the best bit about staying here, is the atmosphere; it's like staying in a friend's home, everyone wants you to have a good time, to relax and to come back again.
