“The large, Victorian terraced building, with views up Borrowdale valley, hides a bright and contemporary guest house with colourful rooms, sleek furnishings and a relaxed vibe. The restaurant’s punchy flavoured meals are just the ticket after a day’s walking”

Hotel review

In, arguably, one of the best locations in Keswick – a five-minute walk from both Lake Derwentwater and the Market Square and with views up craggy Borrowdale – Fellpack House is a bright alternative to many of the town’s guest houses. With deep-hued walls, bright fabrics and a modern sleekness to the furnishings, it has a youthful vibe that’s enhanced by its friendly and energetic staff. Most are outdoors enthusiasts with a passion for the Lakes, and are great sources of local advice and information. Walkers, in particular, are well provided-for with a dedicated boot and drying room. But this is a place for walkers who also like a touch of style. Bedrooms are warm with bold-coloured walls, jazzy headboards, Shaker-style furniture - often custom-made - and careful use of space to make them feel bigger. They’re nicely uncluttered with frameless mirrors, designer radiators and colourful lampshades providing decoration. Bathrooms, too, are boldly tiled. All rooms have good views whether up Borrowdale valley or over rooftops to surrounding hills. Evening meals (in their neighbouring restaurant, a two-minute walk) are full of punchy flavours, predominantly Middle Eastern or Asian, such as baba ganoush and lamb tagine, or British classics given a spicy injection such as pork belly with kombu and kimchi. Breakfast, too, is bold and flavourful; just the ticket for a day on the hills.
