Madrid has been long overdue for a properly done boutique hotel, and this one—with its main event lobby bar, considered service, and ideal location—hits the mark.

The Gran Hotel Inglés brings a whole new level of luxury to the Madrid hotel scene, with stylish Art Deco design, sumptuous rooms, a quietly excellent restaurant and a superb spa. Although it is right in the middle of the city, the clubby vibe means you may well not want to move from the lobby bar.

The oldest hotel in Madrid is getting a new lease of life. Originally opened in 1886, the Gran Hotel Inglés has been completely restored by Hidden Away Hotels under the watchful artistic eye of the Rockwell Group. This historic icon will reopen on March 23 as a new luxury hotel and member of Leading Hotels of the World. Gran Hotel Inglés has a central location in the Spanish capital; it’s located in the Barrio de las Letras, near the Atocha Madrid train station and not from the the Puerta del Sol.
