Set in Ham Yard, a tiny little urban enclave on the borders of Soho and Mayfair, the Ham Yard Hotel is an oasis of style and cool. Centred around a leafy courtyard garden with bronze sculpture centrepiece by Tony Cragg, the vibe as you enter is buzzing and full of life. Once inside the modern building you’ll be greeted by the trademark stunning interiors that can only be created by Kit Kemp. You’ll be knocked out by the range of art works and different fabrics and textures that appear everywhere you look (don’t miss the extraordinary clock by the lifts). And the rooms and suites won’t disappoint either. All are individually decorated with stunning feature headboards, contrasting fabrics and art, and beautiful curtains adorning the huge floor-to-ceiling windows which either have views over the courtyard or the London skyline. Bathrooms are seriously indulgent too, even at entry level they’re adorned in granite and oak and offer huge walk-in rain showers. If you’ve opted for something higher up the scale you can expect double sinks and probably a huge bath tub too. All come with signature Kit Kemp smellies. Dining at the Ham Yard is another treat. The large restaurant is beautifully decked out in yet more award-winning style and the food’s pretty good too; its frequently changing a la carte menu relies on the best seasonal produce and staff will be happy to advise if you just can’t make your mind up. On warm days, try to bag a table outside and pretend you’re on the continent somewhere! As if that weren’t enough, there’s also a spoiling Soholistic Spa offering a comprehensive range of body and beauty treatments, and an onsite bowling alley, perfect if you’re at a loose end or a brilliant venue for a private event. To sum up, if you’re a Firmdale fan already and haven’t visited yet, then you really must! To anyone else looking for a hip, buzzing stay in the very centre of London, I’d say look no further.
