The Hassler’s grand exterior featured in the recent Netflix adaptation Ripley, and the inside is similarly cinematic – all marble pillars, gleaming mirrors and sparkling chandeliers. Staff pride themselves on their personal approach to service, often greeting guests by name and ever-ready with tips to help them get the most out of their stay in the Eternal City. Even the hotel’s entry-level rooms are positively palatial – with walk-in wardrobes and bathrooms featuring a double sink, whirlpool tub and separate shower – but the suites are next-level: apartment-sized homages to former star guests, like Audrey Hepburn and Karl Lagerfeld. Make like an ‘A’ lister and book a table in in Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurant Imàgo, or settle for a sundowner and a bowl of pasta amatriciana on the Seventh Floor Terrace – it has one of the best views in Rome.

The Hassler, one of Rome’s most prestigious hotels, has the body of a grand dame – complete with Michelin-starred dining, superlative style and enviable real estate atop the Spanish Steps. Its heart, however, is that of a family-run inn, free of pretense and suffused with a disarmingly personal warmth.
