“An Arugam Bay icon, Hideaway is the place to stay for keen surfers, yogis, couples and families. Seven stylish bedrooms and nine tile-roofed bungalows sit in leafy grounds, across the road from the bay's golden beach. Sip cocktails, or unwind at the pool & yoga shala. A brilliant east coast escape.”

Hotel review

Light, airy spaces have polished concrete floors and built-in beds topped with colourful block printed quilts. Antique desks are ideal for afternoons postcard scribbling, whilst classic wooden wardrobes provide convenient storage and traditional artwork adorns whitewashed walls. You'll find simple, spacious bathrooms with open-roofed showers — lovely when you can see stars between the palm leaves at night — and private terraces with swing benches or low-slung planters chairs.

Thread your way through the verdant gardens for yoga classes in the breezy shala, or refreshing pool dips and Ayurvedic massages. Tranquil and secluded, this part of the property offers a happy contrast to Hideaway Chill and Hideaway Blue, roadside hotspots where the arrack punch and espresso martinis flow to the sound of reggae and soul in the evenings. The perfect place for a post-surf party, Hideaway packs out after sunset.

Other highlights are the friendly team, the lovingly curated shop -—stocking clothing and homeware from India — and the fresh, seasonal fare. We adored the scrambled eggs with pol roti and big smoothies, and our early evening sharing plates of hummous, grilled pumpkin and freshly caught tuna. Warm, welcoming and characterful, this is a wonderful base for nature lovers, social butterflies and relaxed holidaymakers of all ages to soak up A-Bay's famously laid-back vibe. It's easy to see why guests return year after year!
