“An exquisite fusion of architect Azuma's minimalist Japanese design and beautiful Balinese elements, Hoshinoya's restful retreat is a gem. Hide away in one of 30 pool-facing villas, unwind at the serene spa and feast on exceptional cuisine at this jungle-fringed escape. A design buff's dream.”

Hotel review

Immerse yourself in the breathtaking Ubud jungle at this tranquil luxury retreat, which beautifully fuses Japanese and Balinese design and culture. Feel the zen of Hoshinoya Bali from the moment a smiling staff member greets you at the Balinese-style split gate entrance and you see the magical view of the lush river valley, where 30 spacious villas and wow factor suspended gazebos nestle amongst the trees. A place to slow down and soak up the sounds and energy of nature; including the cascading water of Bali's UNESCO designed irrigation system running through the resort. The villas are designed in the style of a Balinese village where houses are built along a stream - in this case one of three glorious swimming pools accessed via your own steps. Nothing beats taking a dip and then watching the birds dart around the trees from your enormous outdoor daybed gazebo. Entry to each villa feels special; through a traditional Balinese gate and along a private walkway. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite the outdoors in and if you book a Jalak villa overlooking the valley, you must witness sunrise from the wraparound deck. It’s easy to never leave. Start the day with a guided stretch on the jungle deck or walk through the rice fields, unwind with a Balinese massage, try your hand at an activity like Canang Balinese offering making, and devour afternoon tea or delicious traditional Indonesian cuisine. A special mention to the staff who brilliantly mix discreet Japanese service with Balinese warmth.

Hoshinoya Bali - Hotel Review

"Luxury minimalism at its best. This is Hoshinoya's first property outside of Japan, and the rooms are larger while the room count is smaller (30 villas total) than most of their other properties. The resort was designed by Rie Azuma, who spent considerable time researching Hindu temples and traditional Balinese culture. It was important for them to keep an aspect of Japan in the design as a Japanese group, but they integrated it seamlessly with local design."

Hoshinoya Bali - Hotel Review

"With its roots firmly set in Japanese design principles, luxurious Hoshinoya Bali also pays tribute to Balinese culture and craftsmanship – and the result is exquisite. The tranquil resort conveys a very fine balance between the two cultures, as well as the relationship between humans and nature."
