Hotel Amapa has quickly become synonymous with Mexico's chic new approach to boutique bolt-holes; centring a blend of indigenous culture and modernism, Luis Barragán's unprecedented design for this hotel refocuses luxury away from harsh lines and foreign materials to highlight local craftsmanship and the natural landscape. Guestrooms are designed to feel distinctly low-key; homely throws, cushions and mats belie a distinguished eye - the hammocks on the balcony are in fact handmade, sourced from the Yucatán Peninsula. The sandy palette used for the interior design perfectly complements the Pacific Ocean views which dominate the rooms from large windows. Book a luxury suite for breathtaking design pieces and a separate living area. The hotel facilities are split across several levels, giving guests a sense of the hotel's conscientious design; head up to the rooftop terrace for the swimming pool and enjoy a cocktail from the bar, boasting 360-degree views of the coastline and the city. Alternatively, take a break from it all at the wellness pavilion, with a yoga and meditation platform, massage and reflexology treatments. With excellent facilities inside the hotel, you would be forgiven for not leaving its doors. Do venture out onto the beach during your stay; the hotel's beach club is open to serve all your needs while you soak in the sun just 300m from your hotel room. For a seaside hotel in an exclusive Mexican pueblo, Hotel Amapas manages the delicate balance between local heritage and modern design with style and aplomb.

Hotel Amapa is a modernist-minimal, 55-room love letter to Mexican craftsmanship opening in January 2019. Calming rooms with design inspired by one of Mexico’s foremost architects, Luis Barragán, will feature barro coverings from Oaxaca, woven works by fibre artist Mariella Motilla and hand-crafted hammocks from the Yucatán Peninsula.
