“This luxury hotel occupies a 19th-century mansion in the historic centre of San Miguel de Allende. Elegant suites line an interior courtyard and feature a blend of heritage features, modern design and local textiles; book the Amparo Suite for a freestanding bath. Unwind at the bar; a refined hotel.”

Hotel Amparo, Guanajuato

Compared with some of the stuffy neighbouring hotels, this is warm and inviting and harks back to an era when writers and painters travelled in exclusive circles and stayed at each other's homes – it’s almost as if you're staying with the Fitzgeralds in the South of France or in one of Neruda's tucked-away Chilean enclaves.
