A regular haunt for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, the Hotel d'Inhiliterra exudes clubby elegance and sophistication today. With the Spanish Steps yards away it’s perfect for a stroll in the park of Villa Borghese and is even better placed for fashionista shopping. The Bond Bar serves cocktails ‘shaken but not stirred’ and turns overnight into the breakfast buffet area with a side door opposite leading straight out onto Fendi, Dior, Versace and Max Mara on Via Condotti. Three shopping bags in each of the porter’s hands disappear swiftly via the old-style lifts. Down smart and opulent, gilded-mirrored corridors are the bedrooms. Their style is rather over-elaborate, but the super king-size bed makes up for it all as does the bathroom with a TV in the mirror and a light show that was slightly tricky to operate!
