If you are after a cocoon of eau-de-nil and delicate frescoed shades then the Hotel Regina is not the place for you. Extravagantly refurbished, the Grande Dame of the Via Veneto is now a dramatic homage to pure Art Deco. The rooms are all high gloss, black marble and fabric walls. Sumptuous but not gentle. You will encounter a lot of leopard print and leather being sported in the lobby amongst the tour groups. The friendly and professional staff are however very proud of their ritzy new-look hotel which was reportedly used by Queen Margherita (of the Pizza fame) while her own villa was being constructed across the way (now the American Embassy). Breakfast is served under crystal chandeliers in the eccentrically camp pink salon, or you can dine in the boldly black and white dining room. No understatement here.

The embodiment of Rome’s La Dolce Vita elan, this Grand Dame along the iconic Via Veneto wows with its perfectly preserved Art Deco interiors and city views. A clubby in-house restaurant and bar mean you don’t have to go far to sample upscale Roman fare followed by a nightcap.
