Marfa has been crying out for a hotel cool enough to match the plenitude of galleries, restaurants and art institutions that dominate this small town's scene - and here it is! The original Hotel Saint George was built in 1886, and Carlos Jimenez Studio (a Houston-based architecture firm) has breathed new life into many of the building's original materials in this new incarnation- original concrete floors, exposed brick walls and marble and steel features. Add to this hundreds of artworks by artists such as Mark Flood, Christopher Wool, Jeremy Deprez and Jeff Elrod, as well as the newest location for Marfa Book Co. and you have a fittingly cultural hub for this extraordinary town. We were particularly wowed by the Aesop products in the bathrooms and the mouthwatering food by executive chef Allison Jenkins. An all round winner from us!
