If it's 19th-century Italian opulence you are looking for, look no further; Hotel Splendide is the Roman iteration of Roberto Naldi's exclusive luxury hotel group, steeped in Baroque grandeur and elegance. Based in an ornate palazzo in the more upmarket part of the city, the hotel is a stone's throw from the exclusive shopping street Via dei Condotti and the stately Villa de Borghese. Guests enter the hotel to Murano glass chandeliers, gilt mirrors, oil paintings and a domed skylight. Suites and rooms are ornate, as you would expect; think: rich, red carpets, heavy curtains and delicate, painted ceilings with original stucco features. The terrace Mirabelle restaurant is a romantic delight, with a delicious gourmet menu and breathtaking views over the city. Breakfast is an abundant buffet in a smart dining room with expansive windows and pretty vistas. There is little to complain about at this polished and sophisticated hotel.
