“An idiosyncratic and lovable private island resort and spa just north of Oban. Antiques mix with contemporary interiors in this peaceful haven. Cosy living rooms with roaring fires, fine dining restaurant, comfortable rooms and pampering spa plus modern private retreats. A remarkable rural escape.”

Hotel review

Looking to get away from it all and sample a slower pace of life? A Scottish baronial castle situated on an island certainly fits the bill. Accessed by a metal bridge, followed by a winding rhododendron lined drive, first impressions are striking. Imposing towers and turrets are testament to the age of the property while inside the upgraded bathrooms, heavy quilts, fine linen and comfortable sofas give a modern feel. There's a large, inviting open fire at the foot of the main staircase for tea and pre or post dinner drinks, and a conservatory for summer days. The Deck Restaurant in the new spa building is aptly named for dining alfresco, with stunning views across to the sea and Lismore. For those seeking special pampering, the spa boasts a 13m swimming pool, gym and ESPA treatments - bliss! In addition, some recently added 'Retreats' in the grounds, all with private hot tubs offer more privacy and can be taken on a self catered basis or with full hotel service.

Expect some west coast ruggedness when venturing further afield, but the house itself is sheltered from the worst of the elements. Enjoy lovely walks around the island looking across Loch Linnhe to the Morvern Hills. Hunting, shooting and fishing can be arranged or try wild swimming (for the brave!). Keep an eye out for otters and grey seals. A very special island stay.
