Purchased back in 1995 and lovingly restored by owners Ray and Sheila, La Bodega has been transformed from a rundown wine bodega and farmhouse into a family home with four charming self catering cottages dotted round the garden. Each of the cottages has been individually designed, but all have been furnished with rustic wooden pieces and has a traditional Canarian feel with thick stone walls and tiled floors. Kitchens come well equipped with everything you may need and if you want provisions to be there waiting for you, that can easily be arranged. Outside there are plenty of terraces for sitting and admiring the views, plus a barbecue area, and outside dining spots (which are perfect for a convivial drink or dinner) and of course the all-important saltwater pool (open year round)! So whether you want to relax on a lounger away from the crowds or explore the island from beaches to volcano, La Bodega is perfect - an adults only haven that will appeal to anyone in search of the real Tenerife!

Why do people love staying in your hotel? It's a home away from home, an ideal base to explore the entire island, it is also away from the main tourist resorts providing a different holidaying experience of the island of Tenerife. There has been a shift in the past five years or so, to more rural tourism on the island and this fits in well. There's large comfy well furnished rooms, with everything you could possibly need while holidaying on Tenerife.
What is there to do in the area? You can explore the whole of the island in a day if you want, but that's not recommended unless you enjoy looking at the motorway! Nearby, there's plenty of rural walks, and a walk in the historic village of San Miguel, which is over 300 years old, is just on the doorstop. The village hosts several festivals throughout the year including the flower carpets in June, and the Carnival in February. We recommend that you hire a car which we can organise as well as bike rental from one of our partners. A 45 minute drive and you're up on MT Teide, a UNESCO world heritage site, Volcano and the highest point in Spain at 3718 metres. It's also the perfect place to do a bit of stargazing. In fact, thanks to the little pollution and out of the way geography of the Canary Islands. Tenerife is one of the top 5 places in the world to look at the stars, something we offer an excellent vantage point of, here at La Bodega. It's a short 15-minute drive to El Medano, home to the largest natural sand dunes east of the Canary Islands, and it's also a natural reservoir for nearby wildlife, mostly birds, lizards, flora and fauna, the Sandpiper and Kentish Plover can only be found here. It's rather windy here, and it's hosted the PWA (World Windsurfing Championship) five times in a row. It's also close to 2 golf courses, Amarillo Golf and Golf del Sur golf course. The airport Tenerife Sur is just a 15-minute drive away, we can also arrange an airport transfer to Tenerife Self Catering - La Bodega, if you would like. 20-25 minutes and you're in the sand imported/award winning beaches of Las Americas, Los Cristianos in the heart of the tourist area. It's also a great place to see the whales and dolphins from, in fact 24 different species live and cross these waters every year. Thanks to its geographic location, the Eastern side of Tenerife is the perfect place to see pilot whales. In fact, it's almost guaranteed that you'll see whales and dolphins when you go out on a boat trip to see them. Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island, is just under an hour away by car. With shops, theatres, opera houses, museums, there's plenty to do and see, as well as take in the history. A bit further, you've got Las Teresitas with its Saharan sand and palm tree beach, and from there it is easy to go for a drive in the Mercedes mountains, a really beautiful side of the island to explore.
What kind of breakfast do you offer? We don't offer breakfasts as we are self-catering cottages, but we can provide a menu of home cooked meals in the evening if guests would like. We can also accommodate other items on request, bring in a starter pack of shopping for your arrival. There's also a local baker on the high street where you can get delicious croissants and delicatessen treats.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Yes, we offer home cooked meals. There's three restaurants in the village, and plenty of other restaurants within a short drive away. We provide a selection of recommended/guest favorite restaurants in reception, from fish restaurants to Canarian food and steaks.
Which are your most popular room types, and why? We tend to have a run on a certain room, at the moment it's Hibiscus and Jasmine because of the views down to the pool and gardens, but other times it's bougainvillea because of the large kitchen and large communal table or sometimes Frangipani because of the cane ceilings and rustic furnishings. (Even though, all four cottages have rustic furnishings)
What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We have an adults only policy, so children under 18 are not allowed.
What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? We have been operating for 16 years, and have many guests that return year after year and we are constantly updating our facilities. This year, we have converted the swimming pool into a saltwater pool and also have heating for the winter months.
